We told you that Friday’s Name That Council patch belongs to
the home council of a VIS—very important Scouter—and that was no exaggeration.
In fact, none other than Chief Scout Executive Robert
Mazzuca himself calls this council home. Read on to Name That Council.
Did you say the Monterey Bay Area Council? If
so, you got it right!
Serving California Scouts in the tri-county area of
Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito, the council is where Mazzuca earned the
rank of Eagle Scout as a boy in San Juan Batista, Calif. He also twice served
on the camp staff at the council’s Pico Blanco summer camp and became a
Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow during his time with the Esselen
Lodge.
Sure, he has since gone on to lead the preeminent youth
organization in the country. But he took his first steps in Scouting in the
Monterey Bay Area Council.
Check back Friday for the next Name That Council challenge.
