Kim Powell, a 14-year-old Eagle Scout from Troop 363 in New Braunfels, Texas, is being recognized for creating sensory kits for police officers to use when interacting with individuals with autism or sensory sensitivities.

Kim, who has been diagnosed with autism, collected donations and assembled the kits as part of her Eagle Scout service project. She recently presented the kits in person to the New Braunfels Police Department.

Kim says she hopes her project not only helps de-escalate situations but also raises awareness and sparks positive change in her community.

“I feel like just starting to spread that awareness … and having that be out there makes me hope that people will actually see this as, ‘Yeah, that works,’” says Kim.

Eagle Scout takes law enforcement training to new heights

Harris Hill built a drone obstacle course at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office training center in Georgia as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Modeled after national standards for these kinds of facilities, the course helps deputies enhance their drone piloting skills for real-world scenarios, such as search-and-rescue missions and pursuits. The project received praise from law enforcement and now supports ongoing training efforts at the sheriff’s office.
