On February 9, Cub Scouts from Pack 651 of Summit Station, Pennsylvania, delivered Valentine’s Day gifts to senior residents at two local nursing and rehab centers.
The Cub Scouts made gifts and signed cards during their weekly meetings. The activity helped them earn time for their citizenship and community service-related requirements.
Cubmaster Kevin Huneke shared that the project brought joy to residents and may have reminded some of them of their own past connections with Scouting.

Scouting history on display in eastern North Carolina
Last month, the Greene County Museum in Snow Hill, North Carolina, debuted a new exhibit highlighting the history of Scouting America in eastern North Carolina.
Sponsored by the Eastern North Carolina Scouting Historical Society, the exhibit features memorabilia like merit badges and recognitions earned by Scouts over the past 110 years.
Andrew Stevens, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 25 in Farmville, N.C., emphasized the importance of preserving Scouting’s history, noting its role in shaping character in youth.
“I think that’s one of the reasons why the Scouting program has recently expanded to start incorporating girls into the program, because everybody loves adventure, and Scouting is a great way for people to learn leadership skills and start off at such an early age,” Stevens said.
Benny Coats, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 74 in Snow Hill, praised the exhibit and highlighted plans to establish a girls’ troop in Greene County.

Charting new waters: Sea Scouts in Titusville
Sea Scout Ship 5179, also known as SSS Kraken, from Titusville, Florida, is launching in North Brevard County to provide local youth with leadership and maritime skills.
Chartered through the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 17-09 in Titusville, the group was created to eliminate the need for local youth to travel to Orlando to participate Sea Scouts.
The program will involve collaboration with the Coast Guard and Auxiliary on disaster response and sea safety.
Ship 5179 will fundraise for activities and new watercraft. Their goal is to eventually become a member of the National Flagship Fleet or even the National Flagship, a prestigious honor in Sea Scouts.
“Our long-term goal is to plan a long cruise, possibly a 7- to-10 day trip to the Florida Keys or the Bahamas,” says Ship 5179 founder Jeremy Spencer. “We also want to build a strong leadership base that can continue growing the program.”
