The Western Los Angeles County Council has established the Sam Rubin Campership in honor of Sam Rubin, who passed away this year on May 10. Sam was a dedicated board member, local TV news host and father of Eagle Scout Colby Rubin.
Proceeds will fund camp experiences for lower-income families, allowing Scouts to attend Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island in Los Angeles County, California, at no cost. Rubin was passionate about Scouting and Camp Emerald Bay, where he watched so many young people grow and learn the life skills taught in Scouting.
The goal is to send 50 campers in Rubin’s name, continuing his legacy of fostering connections through Scouting.

Scouts take on new adventure as Sea Scouts
A new Sea Scouts chapter called Ship 886 has been launched in Jacksonville, Florida, at the Fort Caroline Community Center, with 13-year-old Scouts BSA members Emma Custis and Vanessa Reep leading the way.
(Sea Scouting is a program for youth ages 14 t0 21 — or 13-year-olds who have completed the 8th grade.)
The Sea Scouts focus on teaching water safety, teamwork and boat operation. At an open house event, the girls demonstrated CPR and rope-tying skills with the help of volunteers from the USS Orleck and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The program will eventually allow the Scouts to captain a boat and gain valuable life skills.
