Scout restores historic bell

John Roland, a graduate of Springfield Local High School, used his Eagle Scout project to restore a historical 300-pound bell that has been part of the school district since 1874.

The bell, previously displayed in front of the old elementary school, needed improvement after being left out when a new elementary school opened in 2016. John worked to restore the bell, preserving its authentic look by keeping some minor flaws.

The school plans to incorporate the bell into a reward system for student achievement and behavior.
