To fully understand the impact Eagle Scout projects have on communities, you need to see to believe.
That’s why I asked to see Eagle Scout project before-and-after photos — the same photos prospective Eagles must include with their post-project report.
In the collection below, you’ll see the same spot twice: Once before an Eagle Scout project began and once after.
Consider this as you scroll through: You can multiply each individual act of stupendous service by 50,000. That’s how many Eagle Scout projects get completed every single year.

Cothron from Tennessee
Who: Cothron, Troop 101, Kingston, Tenn.
What: Cothron tore down an unsafe bridge and began rebuilding in the same location, but a flood washed away the first day’s work. He redesigned the project and built an observation deck perpendicular to the original location for the University of Tennessee Arboretum.
Harry from Tennessee
Who: Harry, Troop 72, Cookeville, Tenn.
What: Harry put in a culvert and 40 tons of gravel and constructed rock walls and mulched trail at a local state park.
Nathan from Tennessee
Who: Nathan, Troop 413, Hendersonville, Tenn.
What: Nathan restored a Civil War-era cemetery by cleaning up the overgrowth of vegetation, building a new fence and repairing some of the broken tombstones.
Alex from Texas
Who: Alexander, Troop 261, Lucas, Texas
What: Alex created walls on three sides of a metal park structure at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center on Lake Lavon. He placed boards on both the inside and outside to allow for some airflow. No nails were used in the project.
Christian from Texas
Who: Christian, Troop 2014, Arlington, Texas
What: Christian installed a toddler playground at his church.
Dennis from Texas
Who: Dennis, Troop 262, Gonzales, Texas
What: Dennis did a complete exterior improvement of Norma’s House, a safe haven for abused and neglected children. He power-washed the exterior and painted and repaired shutters, screens and trim. He updated the wheelchair ramps and stairs. Excess funds were given to help improve and beautify the landscaping.
Kyle from Texas
Who: Kyle, Troop 1102, Houston, Texas
What: Kyle built a courtyard by paving an underused grassy area between two church buildings, creating an excellent outdoor area for activities and meetings.
Shawn from Utah
Who: Shawn, Troop 1542, Payson, Utah
What: Shawn replaced railroad-tie stairs at the back entry of Barnett Elementary School with cement ones.
Christopher from Virginia
Who: Christopher, Troop 155, Concord, Va.
What: Christopher added a reading garden with four benches, two trees, a bird bath, trees, plants and a Little Free Library.
Jack from Washington
Who: Jack, Troop 18, Mukilteo, Wash.
What: Jack cleared blackberries and built an observational bird blind with a 150-foot gravel trail for the Mukilteo Elementary School outdoor classroom.
Zac from Wisconsin
Who: Zachary, Troop 218, West Allis, Wis.
What: Zac removed the old, run-down playground equipment at an elementary school and installed Veronica’s Place Playground after a year of fundraising and planning.
