This week, Scouts and Cub Scouts across the country are honoring veterans. In Oakdale, California, members of Troop 365 and Cub Scout Pack 365 placed nearly 800 flags on veterans’ graves at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

With the support of families and community volunteers, participants worked together to honor those who served in the armed forces. For many, the event was a family tradition and a meaningful way to honor loved ones.

The flags will remain for about a month before being replaced by wreaths from the Wreaths Across America program on December 13.

Scout revitalizes local veterans memorial

Alexander Chavez, a Scouts BSA member in Turner, Maine, used his Eagle Scout project to give back to his hometown and honor local veterans.

Alexander upgraded Turner’s Veterans Memorial Park by planting new shrubs, repainting benches and installing engraved bricks bearing the names of living and deceased U.S. veterans. The improvements were unveiled on Veterans Day, with dozens of veterans and their families in attendance.

“Doing this has made me happy. It made me want to support the veterans and, overall, just let the people know that veterans need something special,” Alexander said.

Scout improves school safety with Eagle Scout project

Gavin Tramontozzi, 17, a Scouts BSA member and high school senior in Medford, Maine, has made a lasting impact on his community by enhancing classroom safety across the school district.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, he organized and assembled emergency buckets for every classroom. They were each stocked with first-aid kits and essential supplies for use during lockdowns or other emergencies.

Working with an assistant principal at his school, Gavin raised nearly $2,000, sourced materials locally and led volunteers in building the kits.

“Now, when students or teachers are facing a crisis, there is something that can lessen this pain and provide comfort — even if it’s momentarily,” Gavin said.
