The holiday season is a great time for Scout units across the country to focus on giving.
Cub Scout Pack 935 in Statesboro, Georgia, has chosen this time of the year to participate in Scouting America’s Scouting for Food program, an annual food drive run by local councils.
Amy Anderson, the Eastern Heights Baptist Church (EHBC) Food Pantry ministry coordinator, was grateful for the Scouts’ continued commitment to the cause, saying, “The EHBC Food Pantry is so blessed to be the recipient of the Cub Scouts food drive again this year. The food drive brought in 587 pounds of food, and we look forward to blessing those in our community who struggle with food insecurity with these donations.”

Meanwhile, a Bear Cub Scout den in Ridgewood, New Jersey, crafted more than 60 holiday cards and sent them to older adults in their community.
And in Los Altos, California, Scouts BSA Troop 4103 made paracord lanyards for military personnel.
“I think it’s super important for young people to realize that there are people fighting for their freedom and think about how they can show their support and appreciation,” Scoutmaster Miranda Hoogendoorn said.

Scouts across the country are selling, recycling Christmas trees
Scouts BSA Troop 695 in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is one of many units that have opened their annual Christmas tree fundraising lots.
“The point of the tree lot is to raise money for campouts and to provide people with a nice variety of trees so they can have a good holiday,” said 12-year-old Madeline Bidney, the troop historian.

Scouts in Bend, Oregon, and Tualatin, Oregon, are offering tree recycling services to members of their community.
This is a win-win situation for the community and for the local Scout troops. This recycling project provides a service to the community and teaches organizational and team-building skills to the Scouts involved at all levels of the project.
