Although recent virus variants have generally shown less severe, they can still be a serious risk for Scouts and Scouters or their families — especially for those in high-risk groups.
Many mothers in Troop 29 in North Mankato, Minnesota, usually left the outdoor adventures to the fathers. But the dads and Scouts still wanted to involve the moms, so they created “Mom’s Camp.”
“I like to refer to it like learning a dance with the Scouts and parents and leaders, and in this particular case, the camp staff, too. Everybody has to be in communication with each other.”
Lots of Scouts (and maybe a few adults) will experience some symptoms of homesickness during campouts. Identifying and addressing it appropriately will go a long way toward making camp the wonderful experience it should be.
