Nominations are now open for the Youth category in the 2019 Outdoor Retailer Inspiration Awards. The ideal nominee is a young person between the ages of 16 and 21 who shows leadership, serves his or her community, and inspires others to enjoy nature.
The award isn’t just for Scouts or Venturers, but you won’t be shocked to learn that a BSA youth member has won it in three of the past four years.
The deadline to nominate someone is 5 p.m. PT on May 3. Nominations are accepted online.

Winners will be honored June 18 in Denver during Outdoor Retailer, a giant trade show for the outdoor industry.
Who makes an ideal candidate for the Youth award?
It’s that Scout or Venturer who’s always encouraging fellow youth to get outdoors and stretch the troop or crew’s definition of adventure.
Consider someone who …
- Is between the ages of 16 and 21
- Shows leadership in their school, community and troop/crew
- Shares their passion for the outdoors with others
- Goes above and beyond to protect and preserve the environment

Who has won this award in past years?
The award debuted in 2015. A member of the Boy Scouts of America has won in three of the past four years.
In 2018, Climber Margo Hayes was honored for being the first woman to ascend La Rambla in Spain. It’s considered one of the world’s most difficult climbs.
In 2017, Venturer Lillian Rose Weihert from the Chicago-based Pathway to Adventure Council, was recognized for her work in angler education through the BSA’s Certified Angling Instructor Program.
In 2016, Venturer Jackie Timmins took the honor. She achieved the rank of Silver and was finishing up her last requirement for the Ranger Award at the time of her selection.
