This summer, join the conversation about engaging millennials parents in Scouting

To reach a new generation of parents, you need a new strategy.

This summer, head to Philmont Training Center for “Engaging Millennial Parents in Scouting,” a weeklong course to gain the knowledge and skills you need to reach the millennials in your council.

Millennials, defined by most researchers as people born from the early 1980s to the early 2000s, are the parents of today’s Cub Scout-age boys. They’re the most diverse generation yet, are confident and upbeat, are self-expressive, are constantly connected to their friends via social media, and are the most educated generation in American history.

Helping a millennial parent understand the value Scouting offers their children takes a different approach from what you’re probably used to. That’s exactly what we’ll discuss this summer at Philmont.

Who’s the course for?

Anyone involved in Scouting will benefit from this conference, especially:

  • Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Venturing Leaders.
  • Commissioners.
  • Council and District Membership Committee members.
  • District Executives.

What will I learn?

In one week, you’ll learn:

  • An understanding of the unique characteristics of Millennials and how they differ from other generations.
  • Techniques to effectively communicate with Millennials.
  • How to market Scouting to Millennials.
  • How to recruit children of Millennial parents.
  • How to involve Millennials as Scouting volunteers.

Who’s teaching the course?

The course is taught by two people from distinctly different generations: me (a millennial) and my dad (a baby boomer). It’s set for Aug. 7 to 13 at Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, N.M.

How much does it cost?

The conference cost is $530, which includes conference materials, all food during the course and comfortable lodging (with hot showers).

What about my family?

You can bring your family, too, and they’ll enjoy activities specifically tailored to them.

Philmont Training Center has something for everyone, from spouses to infants, which makes it the ultimate family vacation destination.

Where can I learn more and sign up?

Here’s a flier with more information about this course. Please distribute it to your fellow Scouters.
