Scouts Then and Now, Chapter 5: 54 inspiring sets of photos

Look at photos of the same Scout or Venturer — once in his or her early Scouting years and once later in life. The visible changes will be obvious.

The nonvisible changes, such as more confidence, better character and stronger leadership skills, exist just out of view.

This life-changing power of Scouting inspired Scouts Then and Now, a Bryan on Scouting blog series. The premise is simple. I share two photos of the same Scout or Venturer: once in his or her early Scouting years (Cub Scout, younger Boy Scout, younger Venturer) and again in his or her later Scouting years (Life Scout, Eagle Scout, older Venturer).

I have received more than 400 submissions and am working through them in the order received. (So there’s no need to resend your photos.)

Even with the huge response, more is always better. Here’s how to submit your photos.

Chapter 5 of Scouts Then and Now includes 54 sets of photos. Here’s the latest batch:

  1. Bryan, my son’s pictures are still not posted. I guess I will never see them on the “Scouts, now and Then”. I followed your instructions and emailed them to you 3 times. Sincerely, Gene

Hi, Gene. I have received them. Each time the email gets resent, I think it moves your submission to the top of the inbox, so when I work backwards I miss it.

    • There’s over two million youth involved in Scouting.
      Please be patient.

  2. Will you take the image chipped in stone from when I was a kid and a picture from now?

These are so fun to see! Not even my boys and they make me so proud!

  4. Honestly, I’m quite disappointed to see very little venturing, and no exploring or sea scouts (yes all are BSA).
