Pip didn’t just sing last night.

He “absolutely blew the roof off the place,” said host Carson Daly.

Phillip Arnold, known on the show as Pip, gave a powerful rendition of The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun” during last night’s episode.

The Marietta, Ga., native took The Voice stage in front of four music icons and millions of viewers watching at home. Safe to say he’s come a long way from the days of singing at Troop 287 Courts of Honor, small-scale church events, and local diners.

For the blind audition, all four celebrity judges — Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton — listened to Pip’s performance with their backs turned to the singer. And after hearing Pip’s voice, all four pressed their buttons to turn their chairs around and indicate they wanted him on their team. On The Voice, getting four chair-turns is the ultimate stamp of approval.

While in Scouts, Pip sang at Courts of Honor and other troop functions.

Because more than one judge pressed the button, the power shifted to Pip, who had to choose which team to join for the remainder of the show. The chosen one will mentor the singer as he reaches for stardom.

Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5 and the first to turn his chair, made his case to Pip.

“You are what epitomizes the show because I had no idea what to expect when I turned around,” Levine said, “and that’s why I think I’d be great for you.”

Pip, awestruck, just smiled and shook his head as the judges fought over him.

“I never thought all four of y’all would turn around, like, in a million years,” he said.

In the end, Pip picked Levine, who pumped his fist in the air at the news.

Later, Levine’s praise for Pip continued.

“I feel very privileged to have Pip on my team,” Levine said. “He’s awesome. He had one of those voices that was so unique I couldn’t really put a face to it. Which is awesome.”
