If a child is home schooled and younger than the traditional age of kids in the same grade – IE. 7 going into the second grade, 9 going into the fifth grade. where would you put them

My older sons have birthdays in late June. They don’t age up till after school is out. My new Bear just turned 8. He’ll be in 3rd grade in the fall. Put him where his sports friends are or where he would be able to accomplish most of the requirements with little frustration.

I’d suggest you “work backwards” from Age 11 to allow them to experience both years of WEBELOS before their 11th birthday when they are no longer eligible to be Cub Scouts.

Your son is 7 should currently be a WOLF (7-Wolf, 8-Bear, 9 & 10 WEBELOS…11 he bridges into Boy Scouting)
Your son who is 9 faces a different challenge. Once he completes 5th grade, he will not yet be 11 years old. He MUST earn the Arrow of Light Award to join a Boy Scout Troop before age 11. Without the AOL, he may have a period where he has aged out of Cubs, and is too young to join Boy Scouting.
