Two Eagle Scouts, three other Scouting alumni are getting ready for the big game

If it seems like we just did this a couple of years ago, it’s because we did.

Super Bowl LIX is a Chiefs vs. Eagles rematch, and just like last time, there are two Eagle Scouts involved.

Both play, appropriately enough, for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia’s Landon Dickerson, a 6-foot-6, 332-pound offensive lineman from Hudson, N.C.; and Britain Covey, a 5-foot-8, 173-pound wide receiver from Provo, Utah; both earned the highest youth rank in the Scouts BSA program.

Unfortunately, both are also recovering from injuries. Covey suffered a neck injury against the Ravens on December 1. Dickerson hurt his knee in the team’s last game, the rout of the Washington Commanders that sent the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Covey has played sparingly this year, catching seven passes — six of which came in a September 16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Dickerson, on the other hand, played on 86% of the Eagles’ offensive plays this year.

Will Covey and Dickerson play in the Super Bowl?

As of midweek, Covey was listed as “questionable” on Philadelphia’s injury report. That’s better than being listed as “out,” of course.

But it’s not as good as Dickerson’s status. Dickerson does not carry an injury designation for Super Bowl LIX, which means he’s been cleared to play.

The Eagles will need all the help they can get. They’re looking to stop the Kansas City Chiefs from becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.

Are there any other Scouting alumni on either team?

Scouting America records show that Chiefs offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia, Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee and Eagles defensive back Kelee Ringo were all enrolled at some point as youth in Scouting.

Suamataia, from Orem, Utah, was a Cub Scout for a few years while living in his mother’s hometown of Laie, Hawaii. He eventually returned to Utah and played in college at Oregon for one year before transferring to BYU.

He was a part-time player for the Chiefs in the 2024-25 season, his rookie year.

McKee, from Irvine, California, was registered in Scouting for several years as a Cub Scout before reaching the rank of Life Scout in Scouts BSA. He played college football at Stanford, then joined the Eagles in 2023. He’s only started in one game in his NFL career, but it was a doozy: He threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns as the team rested starter Jalen Hurts in its 2024 regular-season finale.

Ringo, from Tacoma, Washington, was in Cub Scouts for two years in Washington before playing high school football in Arizona and college ball at the University of Georgia. He’s a valuable reserve, having appeared in 17 games in each of his two seasons as a pro.
