For his Eagle Scout service project, Jonathan Dubiel knew he wanted to do something to improve his hometown of Lafferty, Ohio. He unveiled the results on Veterans Day: a veterans memorial to replace one that had been destroyed decades ago.
Jonathan, from Troop 59 in nearby Belmont, Ohio, raised the funds and led a team of volunteers in constructing the new memorial. He raised nearly $38,000 through fundraising events like donations, chicken dinners and bake sales.
The new memorial features three granite slabs engraved with the names of veterans from Lafferty who served, beginning with World War I. He also included space for future names.

Eagle Scout’s service project gets rid of electronic waste
Elizabeth Hanechak with Troop 124 in Westfield, Massachusetts, launched her Eagle Scout community service project by organizing an electronic waste collection event.
More than 200 residents attended and dropped off old electronics for recycling. Elizabeth raised funds and worked with her local mayor to make the event happen.
Elizabeth’s project aims to raise awareness about e-waste disposal and make recycling more manageable for the community. She also started ReVolt, a movement that educates the public on the dangers of electronic waste. Additionally, ReVolt offers citizens an active drop-off location for their electronic waste.
For her project, Elizabeth partnered with Gold Circuit E-Cycling, a waste management service, which will recycle the collected e-waste at no cost.
