Where are you going this year? Tell Scout Life!

Your unit probably has the next several months planned out. If you need help keeping your adventures organized and need a heads-up about upcoming Scouting events, feel free to download and use this printable planner, courtesy of Scout Life magazine.

Part of your plans should be to tell Scout Life about your unit’s adventures. Scouting America’s official youth magazine is full of fun, exciting stories, hilarious jokes and comics, and useful tips to help your Scout succeed in Scouting and Be Prepared for life.

Submit your adventures to Scout Life

Scout Life highlights awesome outings that units go on — from 50-mile mountain treks to whitewater kayak trips.

“But my unit isn’t doing anything that grand,” you say.

Oh, we disagree.

A trip to a local park or museum can be a ton of fun too. You can find cool experiences close to home that your Scout will remember for the rest of his or her life. Scout Life highlights those trips, too, because they show that adventure can be found everywhere and inspire units to get out there and find those adventures. In recent issues, the magazine has showcased Cub Scouts sleeping under a space shuttle, a troop taking flight at a combat aviation museum and troops visiting a gold mine for the day.

Scout Life considers outings from Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Sea Scout ships, Explorer posts and Venturing crews. You can submit your upcoming outing to the magazine or share details about a trip that recently happened.

Sometimes, a professional photographer will be able to accompany your unit to document the adventure for the magazine, but that won’t always be the case. So Scout Life can give you and your youth some tips on how to take and submit photos yourselves.

What else can you submit?

Scouts can contribute to many sections of the magazine, including the Readers’ Page, Aerie on the Prairie, SL Headliners, Collecting, Hobby Hows and Think & Grin. Besides seeing their name in print, they can get an official contributor’s patch if their content is selected for publication.

You can also encourage your Scout to send in a letter for the Communication merit badge or turn in photos of their Pinewood Derby car.

Scouts can also ask for advice in the Ask Us Anything and Ask the Gear Guy columns.
