Scouts who become Magic Tree House Reading Warriors can earn a free patch

Fun and adventure don’t have to end when the camping trip is over.

Scouts can experience spellbinding, heart-racing excitement just by opening the latest book in the Magic Tree House series from Random House.

The best-selling series by Mary Pope Osborne follows Jack and Annie Smith, a brother and sister from the fictional small town of Frog Creek, Pa., as they embark on adventures through a magical tree house.

Jack and Annie have had many adventures through history, including crossing the Delaware River with George Washington, witnessing Jackie Robinson’s debut in Major League Baseball and helping rescue victims of the 1900 hurricane in Galveston, Texas.

In their latest adventure, Magic Tree House #31: Warriors in Winter, the siblings travel in time to meet the greatest warriors of all: the Romans.

Which Magic Tree House books are right for my reader?

  • Magic Tree House: Perfect for readers ages 6 to 9 who are just beginning chapter books
  • Merlin Missions: More challenging adventures for the experienced reader, ages 7 to 10
  • Fact Trackers: Nonfiction companions to your reader’s favorite Magic Tree House adventures

How to win a Reading Warrior patch

Random House cares about promoting youth literacy. That’s why they’ve teamed up with Boys’ Life magazine, which has been an advocate for youth literacy for more than a century.

Random House and BL are giving away an exclusive Magic Tree House patch to 1,000 lucky readers.

Parents and their Scouts can follow the instructions at this link to enter. But hurry! The opportunity ends March 15, 2019.

In addition to patches for the first 1,000 who enter, 20 lucky readers will be randomly selected to receive a copy of Warriors in Winter.

What’s next in the Magic Tree House?

The excitement continues with book No. 32 in the series: To the Future, Ben Franklin!

This one flips the script as the first Magic Tree House book to bring someone from history back to present day.

To the Future, Ben Franklin! goes on sale July 2, along with the corresponding non-fiction Fact Tracker book, Benjamin Franklin.

  1. The title says “earn” but the article says “win”, and with only 1000 patches, “earn to win” seems appropriate.

    • Yes, it’s a little misleading.

At the top of this blog entry it says “SPONSORED POST”, indicating that this is a paid advertisement by the publisher Random House, specifically to promote the Magic Tree House book series. I guess Random House doesn’t want to pay for a patch for every reader.

I am torn about this. I appreciate that BSA needs corporate sponsors, but this just feels icky. I would be less opposed if every reader received some sort of acknowledgement.

I’m not sure which point of the Oath and Law is being promoted here, and I would say that it’s pushing the envelope for violating “Trustworthy”.

  2. I semi-understand your dismay, but note this is a sponsored article. Any program encouraging youth to read deserves to be publicized.

  3. I know some are bothered by this being a sponsored post but as a reading teacher, I was excited to see a patch being offered to promote reading. Many children have been drawn into reading for pleasure through this series. My 2nd grade son is excited to try the Magic Tree House series now and hopefully earn the patch. I wish the patches were not limited to 1000 or at least available to purchase for a small fee. I would buy them for my son’s Wolf Den to encourage the reading, whether the children read the books themselves or the parents read the books to the Scouts. Libraries abound with copies of the Magic Tree House series so you don’t even have to buy any books. There are also great resources available at the publisher’s website to extend children’s learning (just click on the teacher section).

My older two sons got to participate in the National Geographic book offering Bryan posted about last year and really enjoyed the book they received.

  4. I think this opportunity is great for young scouts!! I wonder if there is another way to enter? The link that is provided isn’t working for me.

  5. My son qualified for the patch but the email to order it sat in my Inbox 3 days too long and I missed the deadline. Anyone getting an extra patch they might be willing to part with? Buy or trade?

  6. My wife and I are wondering if this patch will be offered again next year or if this was a one time deal.
