September-October 2016 contest winner

We randomly selected the entry from reader Valerie Shinnamon, a Cub Scout mom from Severna Park, Md., to receive a $100 Supply Group gift card for correctly guessing the answer to our September-October 2016 contest, “Spirit of the Island.”

Out of 982 entries, hers was one of many who guessed Shackleford Banks, a barrier island that’s a part of Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina.

Congratulations, Valerie, and enjoy the gift card!

  1. A grainy picture of snow, little dark rocks (or are they tight bushes, the picture is too grainy to really tell), and some shadowy mountains (or they could be hills or even sand dunes, the picture is just too grainy to really get any detail). That could almost literally be every state in the union and every country in the world, even Ethiopia (especially there, actually, given its geography).

We need a clear picture of something definable so we can start to make educated guesses about geography.
