No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That blur you saw zip by at more than 200 mph really did say “Scouting!” on it.
That’s the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America car, owned by longtime Scouting supporters Dale and Gail Coyne.
The car, driven by Colombian-born Gabby Chaves — last year’s rookie of the year — will start in 21st position in Sunday’s 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. The race starts at noon Eastern on ABC, so be sure to cheer on the white, red and blue car with “Be A Scout!” and “Scouting!” on its sides.
Having a Scouting car in the biggest automobile race of the year — and the largest single-day sporting event in the world — is made possible thanks to the generous support of Silver Buffalo Award recipients Dale and Gail Coyne.
This gets the Scouting name in front of a sold-out crowd of 350,000 people in Indianapolis and millions of TV viewers at home. It’s the kind of relationship where everyone sees the checkered flag.
