Four-star offensive tackle headed to Florida State — but not before he finishes his Eagle project

Life is pretty good for Landon Dickerson.

He graduated high school early. He is rated the fifth-best offensive tackle in the country. And last month on national TV, he signed on to play college football at Florida State this fall.

With high school out of the way, you’d think he’d spend the spring working out, playing videogames and hanging with friends.

Instead, he’s working on his Eagle Scout project.

On National Signing Day on Feb. 3, 2016, Landon said — on live TV — that rather than enroll in college early he would work on his Eagle Scout service project. He plans to build and install park benches at a recreation center near his home town of Hudson, N.C.

You can watch the video below.

Young men like Landon offer proof that it’s possible to be a Boy Scout and a serious athlete — there’s no need to choose one or the other. In fact, as this Tufts University study confirms, young people who participate in both Scouting and sports see increased character-development benefits.
