Scoutbook creator Shawn Jackson sits down for a quick chat

Scoutbook creator Shawn Jackson says having his game-changing web app acquired by the BSA is the best thing that could’ve happened to it.

With the BSA’s backing, features and improvements he’s wanted to add for some time will be possible now.

Jackson shares that sentiment and more in a short video interview conducted at last week’s BSA National Annual Meeting in Atlanta. You can watch it below.

After the exhibit hall closed for the day (and as loud street noises permeated the space … sorry about that), Jackson shared his vision for Scoutbook’s future.

After I talked to Jackson, it became clear the BSA had made a wise choice in acquiring Scoutbook — and keeping Jackson on the team to help direct future development. He’s passionate about his creation, humble about his newfound national prominence and driven to make Scoutbook better and better.

He shared with me — off camera — that Scoutbook originally was intended for his local council alone. When fellow volunteers encouraged him to take it nationwide, he was hesitant at first but later agreed.

Let’s be glad he did, because now Scoutbook can make everyone’s time in Scouting easier, more rewarding and more fun.
