That ringing sound you heard this morning wasn't in your head. It was on Wall Street, where the Opening Bell was sounded by representatives from the Greater New York Councils of the Boy Scouts of America.
The New York Stock Exchange Web site has posted a video of the occasion.
In it, you'll see Eagle Scout Thomas Colasanto, council 100th Anniversary chairman Tony Fiori, and Charlie Rosser, scout executive of the Greater New York Councils. They're joined on the balcony by Scouts from the area.
The electronic bell has been around since the New York Stock Exchange moved to its current home on Wall Street in 1903, but it wasn't until 1995 that celebrities, dignitaries, and other noteworthy groups or individuals were given the task of ringing the bell.
Since then, traders have seen big-time CEOs, movie stars, politicians, and even, yes, Darth Vader begin or end the trading day from the lofty perch above the action.
