Adventure Base 100, Vol. 9: Houston, Texas

Meet Jacob Pekarek, an Eagle Scout with Troop 727. He's your host for last week's Adventure Base 100 stop in Houston, Tex.

For his Eagle Scout project, Jacob took on an ambitious task: labeling 500 storm drains throughout the city with special discs to inform residents that storm water drains into Galveston Bay. The intent is to discourage dumping of trash and other harmful products into this estuary that is important for sustaining marine life.

Houston officials said that Jacob and the 12 other Scouts who worked with him on the project did in one day what would've taken city volunteers a month to complete.

It's a project that will have a long-lasting impact on the nation's fourth-largest city. Well done!

Another stop for Adventure Base 100 means another great video from the team behind this nationwide tour. 

This edition takes you to Tupelo, Miss., birthplace of Elvis Presley. It's also the home of the Tomes brothers, who prove that Scouting can truly be a family affair.

After an excellent debut in California and a quick stop in Las Vegas, Adventure Base 100 has landed in the Lone Star State.

The video above shows AB 100 in Austin, the capital city of Texas. Watch for Scout Sean Gingras, whose battle with leukemia inspired him to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

What's next? You'll find AB 100 in San Antonio this weekend. Then it's on to New Orleans.

Most people are drawn to Las Vegas for its glitzy hotels, casinos, and shops. But last weekend, a new Vegas hot spot stole some of the spotlight.

That new entertainment venue was Adventure Base 100, which is continuing its tour across America. For those of us who haven't been graced with its presence just yet, the excellent series of videos makes the waiting a little easier until AB 100 rolls in.

In the latest video, you'll hear from both ends of Scouting's timeline: the Las Vegas Area Council's most senior Scouting alumnus and its newest recruit.

The Adventure Base 100 nationwide tour is just a few weeks old, but it's already creating lifelong memories across the country.

The latest dispatch from AB 100 comes from sunny San Diego, home of a great zoo and even greater weather. These videos are compelling because they show the traveling exhibit while also highlighting the city and its people.

In this video, you'll hear the fascinating story of an Eagle Scout who used his First Aid merit badge skills to save his father's life.

Peek inside the Go Scouting! dome at Adventure Base 100

Last week, we showed you a video of Adventure Base 100's first stop in Pasadena, Calif. Now it's time for another look inside the base with Eagle Scout and Survivor contestant Burton Roberts. 

In the video above, introduced by Roberts and narrated by Scouts from across the country, you'll get a closer look at the impact Scouting has on America's youth.

The video is great, but to really understand the message, make plans to check out Adventure Base 100 when it hits your hometown. Here's the schedule. If you're near Las Vegas, Sacramento, or Austin, you're in luck because AB 100 will be visiting you this month. As for the rest of the country? Just be patient. It's rolling toward you soon.

Adventure Base 100, Vol. 1: Pasadena, California

Adventure Base 100 started its cross-country road trip last week in Pasadena, Calif. Care to go along for the ride?

At each stop during AB 100's 11-month journey, the BSA plans to create Webisodes that will showcase both the base itself and the different ways that Scouting is celebrated across America. The videos are produced by Burton Roberts, an Eagle Scout who also appeared on the seventh season of Survivor.

Relive the Rose Parade and Adventure Base 100 unveiling

Don't worry if you couldn't make it out to Pasadena, Calif., last week to see the Boy Scouts of America float in the Rose Parade and the unveiling of Adventure Base 100.

BSA photographer Michael Roytek has you covered. He was in Pasadena last week, and the BSA Facebook page is where you can see his photos from the exciting kick-off to 2010. The one above shows Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca admiring one of the hand-made merit badge medallions that accompanied the float.
