A Scouter’s gear wish list from the 2015 Outdoor Retailer

There are few things Scouters love more than gear. JetboilGenesis

Outdoor Retailer, a biannual trade show in Salt Lake City, Utah, brings the industry’s best brands together to show off shiny new offerings to be found in stores starting (in some cases) next spring.

It might be August, but start making your holiday wish list early with this compilation of items meant to make your time in the outdoors with your pack, troop or crew even more enjoyable. And be sure to follow @GretchenBSA on Twitter for even more gear from the 2015 Outdoor Retailer summer market.

RinseKit

RinseKit, ($89.99; available now)
This pressurized portable shower may be the solution for washing off grimy gear or boots before loading up a group of Scouts back into your car after an outing. Fill ‘er up using your sink or a hose spigot, transport or leave the cooler-like box in the sun for added warmth and then enjoy up to four minutes of pressurized shower spray.

CampChef Redwood

Camp Chef’s Redwood Fire Pit ($175; currently out of stock but more coming soon)
Gathering around a campfire has a special place in many of our Scouting memories. But sometimes location prevents a traditional campfire. This portable gas fire pit can be toted to a car camping destination or even in your backyard when you need an at-home s’mores fix.

Lifestraw Mission

Lifestraw Mission (starts at $119.95; available here)
New to the company that introduced the award-winning water purification straw comes a high-volume water purifying system. Great for group use, the Lifestraw Mission uses gravity to filter and purify 5 or 12 liters of water. (Available in two sizes for varying needs.)

Thermacell Scout

Thermacell Scout Lantern ($39.99; coming soon)
This spring and summer has been particularly rainy in many states, which means fall Scouting trips will likely involve mosquitos. Bring your own odorless bug barrier that provides a zone of protection for up to 12 hours in addition to 20 hours of light. And when you’re not camping with your unit, this is a great addition to a home porch.

Jetboil GenesisJetboil Genesis Base Camp stove ($350; available January 2016)
If you love the quality of your Jetboil personal cooking stove but need to cook for larger groups — like your troop’s adult patrol — your wishes have been answered. This new stove system includes the stove, a frying pan, pot, a windscreen, carrying case and propane hookup.

440

Sea to Summit Jet Steam Pump Sack ($29.95; available now)
Forget about feeling dizzy when trying to inflate your sleeping pad. Use the Sea to Summit Jet Stream Pump Sack to inflate your sleeping pad, and when it’s not in use you can use it as a stuff sack.
