Update Thursday, Aug. 6: And the winner is … the Airhead SUP Car, with 950 votes! Congrats on your People’s Choice award. Benchmade Knives took second and Lab 921 came in third. We received 1,430 total votes.

The original post follows, but voting is now closed.

Tonight in Salt Lake City, Outdoor Retailer attendees crowded around a wooden track and cheered for fifteen carefully crafted racecars in the Outdoor Retailer Pinewood Derby, hosted by the Boy Scouts of America’s Scouting Works team.

The event brought out the Scout in each contestant, many of whom participated in Scouting as a youth or as a parent with a son in the Scouting program.

And, while the race is over, it’s up to you to choose the People’s Choice design winner. Scroll through the photos below, select your favorite car and cast your vote by noon tomorrow. Voting will close at 12 p.m. MST Thursday, Aug. 6!

Tonight’s derby — which raised $1,500 for Choose Outdoors — featured two categories of racing: the “classic” division (featuring the same rules used at your son’s Pinewood — cars cannot weigh more than 5 oz.) and the “anything goes” category (so long as it fit on the track, it was OK to race).

Within each category, the fastest cars won a $20,000 media package to the BSA’s magazines (ScoutingBoys’ Life and Eagles’ Call).

The fastest cars in the “classic” division? Channel IQ took first, Current Designs took second and Wenonah finished in third.

As for the “anything goes” division: Granite Gear took first, Wenonah took second and Benchmade finished in third.

Thank you to all of the competitors for a great race!
