Nominate a Scout or Venturer in the Outdoor Inspiration Awards

insp-awardsKnow a Scout or Venturer who inspires others to get outdoors?

Nominate him or her in the Youth category of the Outdoor Inspiration Awards. Nominations are being accepted now through the deadline: 6 p.m. (PST) on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014.

Presented by adidas Outdoor and Outdoor Retailer, and held annually at the Outdoor Retailer winter trade show, the Outdoor Inspiration Awards “celebrate and champion individuals, groups and companies whose efforts go above and beyond in inspiring and encouraging others in their communities to enjoy, participate in, and support outdoor activities.”

The Youth category, new this year, is designed to recognize an outstanding young person (defined in this case as 16 to 21) who shows leadership and passion for the outdoors and is an inspiration to all.

The category was added because of the BSA’s involvement as a presenting sponsor, but it’s open to youth who aren’t in Scouting, as well. There’s no guarantee a Scout or Venturer will take the prize, but it sure would be nice.

But that can’t happen if you don’t submit a nomination. When doing so, consider “all angles of inspiration criteria,” the nomination page reads: “impact, creativity, service, technology, philanthropy, engagement, longevity, sustainability, activities, adversity and awareness.”

You’ll include the nominee’s name and a few comments about why he or she deserves the award. That’s it! Best of luck to all the Scouts and Venturers nominated.

Winners will be announced during a Jan. 22, 2015, ceremony at the Outdoor Retailer winter show in Salt Lake City.
