WATCH: ‘The Voice’ star Pip, at age 10, sings the national anthem for his Boy Scout troop

Long before he turned judges’ chairs on The Voice, Eagle Scout Phillip Arnold turned heads on a much smaller stage.

Phillip, who goes by the stage name Pip, sharpened his singing skills at Boy Scout courts of honor as a member of Marietta, Ga., Troop 287.

Pip’s mom, Chris, has been searching for a video of one of his performances for weeks, and finally — success! — a fellow parent tracked down one from 2003. Watch it below.

I think you’ll agree that Pip’s natural singing ability was already evident nine years ago. And even though the crowd here was 15,999,950 people smaller than the audience for The Voice, Pip still shines.

“I think of every performance as big — even a court of honor,” Pip told me in an interview last month. “I try and give everything I have in every performance. I think being emotionally invested in each performance is what I try to bring.”

Speaking of big performances, Pip’s next appearance on The Voice is Monday, March 19, at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. Central) on NBC. He’ll compete against another singer in the battle rounds where the winner advances to the live shows. If he moves on, he’ll need our votes to keep him alive on the show!
