For the first time, Venturers can attend the national Scout jamboree

New location, new eligibility rules.

The 2013 National Scout Jamboree, the first jamboree at the The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, will also be the first to welcome Venturers as participants.

That’s right, the jamboree isn’t just for Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts anymore.

Crew members must have a current BSA membership with a Venturing crew and must have graduated the 8th grade or be at least 14 years of age by the first day of the jamboree, but they can’t have reached their 21st birthday by the last day of the jamboree. Here’s the full list of qualifications.

Previously, Venturers could serve on staff at national jamborees but weren’t eligible participants. That all changes in 2013, meaning the doors to the BSA’s signature event just opened a little wider.

So tell your Venturing crew to get ready, because the registration window opens in late spring of this year.
