The BSA’s Report to the Nation: An insider’s perspective from the Venturing President

Venturing President Jennifer Lowe at the Report to the Nation

This week, a youth delegation from the Boy Scouts of America visits Washington, D.C., for the organization’s annual Report to the Nation.

The report, which summarizes the past year in Scouting, tells our elected officials what you and I already know: that the BSA made a profound impact on the lives of young people in 2010 and will continue to do so in 2011 and beyond.

During their week in D.C., nine youth members (and a few chaperones, of course) have a schedule packed with tours and visits with high-powered officials.

You can keep up with breaking news about the Report to the Nation on the BSA’s official Twitter account (@boyscouts).

But here on this blog, I’ll bring you a different perspective. I’ve asked National Venturing President Jennifer Lowe (pictured above), to share some of her thoughts throughout the week.

Here’s her recap of Saturday’s action:

The delegation officially met and started what is going to be an incredible adventure.

The group is ethnically diverse and represents the various Scouting programs and regions. We started off our trip with a photo shoot of the group and individual shots in front of the Capitol Building.

We were able to view the Capitol from a government building’s balcony, and the view was unrivaled by any others that I have experienced.

After the photo op, we continued on the bus to Goddard Space Center. We had a great tour of the facility and learned about the newest projects coming out of NASA. The science and technology was mind-blowing! I’m really looking forward to tomorrow and more behind the scenes tours in our nation’s capital.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Report to the Nation. And follow the jump for a photo of Jonathan Hillis, National Order of the Arrow Chief.
