New Venturing eligibility requirements begin Saturday

April is almost over, and the arrival of May brings exiting new opportunities for the high-adventure-loving high-schoolers in your town.

That’s because new eligibility requirements for the Venturing program ensure that more boys and girls are able to enter the program with their peers.

As we told you in February, the National Executive Board has lowered the minimum age and grade requirement for becoming Venturers. Previous requirements said that boys and girls must be 14 years old and have completed the eighth grade.

Effective Saturday (May 1, 2010), the minimum requirements will be 14 years old or 13 years old and completion of the eighth grade.

The change was made to accommodate boys and girls who have late
birthdays, usually from June to September. Under the previous
requirement, these boys and girls were not able to immediately join a
Venturing crew with their friends when their class graduated from the
eighth grade. Now that’s no longer an issue.

The maximum age for participants is still 20. Nobody 21 years old or
older can be a youth member.
