NOAC 2009 comes to an end

NOAC-2009-patch All week, Arrowmen from across the country have been living
it up at the National Order of the Arrow Conference in Bloomington, Ind., that
ends today.

What were they up to? The agenda included leadership
development, sports, games, ceremonies, dancing, shows, and lots of
pizza. So much pizza, in fact, that it’s rumored Bloomington pizza chains sell
more pies during one week of NOAC than during any single month of the year.

Boys stayed in dorms at the campus, living among thousands
of accomplished Scouts. In addition to meeting new people and having tons of
fun, they did some learning, too.

Ceremony teams got the rare opportunity to perform in front
of accredited judges. The evaluations helped improve their performances so that
fellow Arrowmen back home will get a more authentic show.

Also, each participant created a personalized training
schedule that included classes in leadership development, lodge operations,
ceremonies, outdoor skills, and more. There were even classes
designed specifically for Lodge Chiefs and for Lodge Advisers.

All of this while experiencing a taste of college life at
Indiana University. This was the event’s 10th at IU, including the
first NOAC in 1948.
