NAYLE down your Scouts’ summer plans

NAYLE

It’s May, so we have to ask: How will the boys in your troop
or crew spend their summer? If a boring summer job or hours of quality time
with a PlayStation 3 look likely, listen up.

NAYLE, the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience, is
gearing up for another summer of high-level training at Philmont. Don’t delay.
Final payments are due June 1.

The one-week course for 14- to 17-year-old Scouts teaches
leadership, teamwork, and selfless service. It’s meant as the final step for
boys who already have completed Troop Leader Training and National Youth Leader
Training. Participants should currently hold a leadership position within their
troop.

The $340 cost covers meals and lodging, training materials,
a NAYLE cap, and two NAYLE T-shirts. Scouts are expected to bring their full
BSA Field Uniform (also known as the “Class A”) and a Class 3 Medical Form.
There are eight weeks to choose from. The first lasts from June 14-20, and the
final week goes from Aug. 2-8.

Your guys will return changed men, ready to lead the troop
after learning effective leadership techniques. For a better idea on what to
expect at NAYLE, read Scouting magazine’s March-April 2007 story, "Scouts ‘NAYLE’ the Qualities of Leadership."

OK, you’re converted, but what about those fidgety teenagers
in your unit? They’ll want to know that NAYLE will challenge and entertain
them—and might even introduce them to some lifelong friends. For more, consider
showing this PowerPoint presentation about the program at your next meeting.
