A New Place for Scouting

Scouting magazine takes you inside the exciting world of the BSA with six issues per year, but, let’s face it, there’s no way we can cover it all. With millions of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and adult volunteers across the country, we know there’s always more excitement out there.

That’s why we’re bringing you the official Scouting magazine blog, called Cracker Barrel. Just like those late-evening gatherings on a Scouting trip, we want this blog to serve as a place for sharing Scouting ideas and fellowship.

Put simply, it’s a daily dose of news, information, and inspiration for you, the volunteer Scouter. Check in with us each weekday for fresh content that takes you beyond the award-winning stories, photographs, and illustrations in the print product.

But we can’t do this alone; we need your help. With your contributions, we can make this blog a place where volunteers can share their Scouting wisdom and experiences.

Keep reading to learn about some of the features we’re planning.

• What a Weekend: A brief look at a recent weekend trip enjoyed by a pack, troop, crew, or ship. Send us a description of your trip and two or three of your best photos, and we might feature your unit on our blog.
• Scouter Spotlight: An interview with one of our outstanding volunteers. If you know someone who goes above and beyond for the Scouting program, please let us know.
• Ask the Expert: Get questions answered by staff at the BSA national office. Your local council can answer most questions, but we’ll pick one each week to take to a national office employee. E-mail us your questions to get started.

We’ll also dish out helpful tips for your unit, breaking news straight from the BSA, and links to compelling stories about Scouts nationwide.

Just like the Scouting program itself, this blog relies on volunteers (that’s you) in order to survive. We know that you’ll help make this a great Cracker Barrel. Let’s get started.
